Heart of Oak

£ 1200

A Year in the Life of an Oak
Majestic and enduring, the oak stands as the king of the woods—its roots deep in both soil and story. Celebrated in history and legend, it is a timeless symbol of strength, wisdom, and our profound connection to the natural world. Supporting more life than any other native tree in the UK, the oak is a living ecosystem, host to countless species through every season.
This artwork traces the quiet grandeur of the oak across the turning year—from the tender unfurling of spring leaves to the hushed stillness of winter's bare branches. Rich autumn colours blaze briefly before the leaves fall, forming a golden-brown carpet that nourishes the earth beneath, even in decay supporting the cycle of life.
More than a tribute to a tree, this is a meditation on time itself—the rhythms of growth and rest, change and continuity, and the enduring beauty of renewal.
Origami meets porcelain. Each porcelain piece is made colouring the raw porcelain with body stain then press-moulding onto an origami form.
The porcelain is left unglazed to capture the crispness of the origami folds.

The background and frame is custom made. Painted in Farrow & Ball Calke Green, edged with oak and ready to hang.
Dimensions 80 x 90 cm
