Yohaku no Bi | The Beauty of Empty Space£575
Currently available to view and buy at Hilde Gallery, North Berwick Yohaku no Bi is a Japanese concept that finds beauty in empty space. It comes from both Buddhist philosophy and traditional Japanese art, where what is left blank is just as meaningful as what is filled in. Emptiness creates balance, invites reflection, and allows space for imagination. It goes beyond the idea of negative space, treating emptiness as an essential part of the whole. This approach values quiet moments and impermanence. In a busy world full of noise and distraction, Yohaku no Bi reminds us to pause—and to notice the quiet beauty in what is not said or shown. Hand-coloured black porcelain. Each piece of porcelain is individually press-moulded onto plaster moulds of origami-folded fabric. Framed on pale grey and black. Oak edged and ready to hang. Dimensions: 50x50cm |
