White and Onyx Circle (SOLD)£300
Beautiful hand coloured onyx porcelain and white porcelain edged with onyx.
Each piece of porcelain is individually press-moulded onto plaster moulds of origami-folded fabric. The mount and frame is custom made and hand-painted. Framed and ready to hang 45 x 45cm |
Kate's current work is inspired by the quiet delight of light and shadow falling across origami folds, revealing the imperfect geometry, the texture and the interrupted surface rhythm so that the light and shadow become part of the work. As the light is constantly changing, the shadows deepen and shift, so the porcelain never looks the same.
The product is the sum of the process and the imperfections tell the story of the making.
Sculptural porcelain that accentuates shadows and plays with light in the space between.
'We find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness that one thing against another creates...
Were it not for shadows, there would be no beauty.'
Junichiro Tanizaki, 1933
